Soleil·s

2025

The Solar Biennale is a pioneering event that celebrates the transformative potential of solar energy through the interconnected worlds of design, art, technology, and innovation.

Titled Soleil·s, the second edition of the Solar Biennale invites visitors to explore the multifaceted significance of the sun through design, art, and research. Hosted by mudac across the Plateforme 10 arts district and the EPFL (The École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, public research University) campus, the exhibition features a variety of displays, including immersive installations, innovative new commissions, a solar punk short story collection, as well as a dense program of activities making it a groundbreaking second edition of the biennale.

Launched in 2022 in the Netherlands by designers Pauline van Dongen and Marjan van Aubel, the Solar Biennale provides a platform for reflection on the challenges of solar energy. For this second edition, mudac broadens the theme by bringing together designers, curators, activists, and researchers to explore expanded perspectives on how to approach ecological transition. Far from limiting itself to a single, socially constructed vision, Soleil·s addresses the symbolic, political, practical, and aesthetic dimensions of our relations to that star.

From solar design to responsive wearables, we design textiles that connect technology with the human experience. Rooted in care and curiosity, our work contributes to a more conscious, sustainable, and sensory future.
